Michael Mihm’s trial practice focuses on two principal areas: i) representing plaintiffs in professional negligence lawsuits against their former lawyers and ii) representing plaintiffs in commercial and business tort litigation.  Michael has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2011 and 2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America ® in the field of Legal Malpractice Law - Plaintiff.  In 2006, Michael was designated as a Colorado Super Lawyer®, and he has received this designation each year since 2006.  He is the only Colorado lawyer designated as a Super Lawyer in the field of Professional Liability - Plaintiff.  He is rated AV® Preeminent™ and 5.0 out of 5.0 by Martindale-Hubbell, and is rated “10.0 out of 10 Superb” by Avvo.com

Michael's legal malpractice cases involve a wide variety of underlying legal matters, often involving business or real estate transactions.  He has recently represented plaintiffs in legal malpractice cases arising from defendant lawyers' mishandling of lawsuits, improper tax advice, estate planning, mergers and acquisitions of companies, intellectual property disputes, lawyers' conflicts of interest and breaches of fiduciary duty, and many other legal and professional ethics matters.  On occasion, Michael serves as personal counsel to defendant lawyers, and as an expert witness in legal malpractice cases.

Michael's recent business litigation matters include both contract and tort claims, and involve real estate disputes, investment fraud, securities fraud, corporate governance and partnership disputes, trade secrets, and insurance coverage litigation.  The cases often involving fraud, self-dealing and other misconduct by company insiders. Michael handles business litigation matters in both state and federal courts, and in arbitrations, bench trials and jury trials.

Michael also represents clients in select catastrophic personal injury, medical negligence and wrongful death cases. 

Michael serves as the managing editor of Lawyers' Professional Liability in Colorado, Second Ed. (Michael T. Mihm ed., CLE in Colorado, Inc., 2005, Supp. 2011). This two-volume, 42-chapter book focuses on legal ethics and lawyers' professional liability issues, and is updated annually.  Michael recruited some of Colorado’s most knowledgeable lawyers in their respective fields to author chapters for the book.  Michael authored or co-authored 6 chapters in the book.

Michael serves as an elected officer of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA), the primary organization for plaintiff and consumer lawyers in Colorado.  As an officer of CTLA, he works with CTLA's staff, lobbyists, and Colorado State Representatives and Senators on legislation of interest to Colorado consumers.  Michael currently serves as CTLA’s Secretary, as well as on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.  Michael is also a member of the Leader's Forum of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), and is a member of AAJ's Professional Negligence section and Business Torts section.

Michael is serving his second term on the Board of Directors of CLE in Colorado, Inc.  CLE in Colorado, Inc. is the nonprofit education and publishing arm of the Colorado Bar Association and the Denver Bar Association.  CLE in Colorado, Inc. publishes more than 30 practice guides and handbooks on various areas of the law, and presents more than 100 live education programs each year on a multitude of legal topics.  Michael is a frequent speaker at legal conferences and continuing legal education seminars on topics of malpractice prevention and trial advocacy skills.

Michael is also active in the International Society of Primerus Law Firms, a highly-selective alliance of more than 190 top-rated, independent law firms located in more than 135 cities around the world. 

Michael is admitted to practice in California and Colorado; he and his trial team routinely represent clients in state and federal courts throughout the southwestern United States.

Michael is married to Nanette Mihm; they have two children, Stefanie Mihm Albrecht, who works for Teach For America, and Nicholas Mihm, who is a student at Arizona State University.  Michael and Nanette make their home in Roxborough, Colorado.  When not practicing law, Michael’s outside interests include skiing, travel, jazz, architecture and American History.
